Child Maintenance: New Government Proposals

divider

Work & Pensions Minister Maria Miller has announced plans to reform the current Child Maintenance system.  The new proposals include a charge to parents for the Child Support Agency (CSA) to arrange child maintenance.

Maria Miller is quoted as saying, “…When couples split up they generally know what is best for them and their children without the state interfering.  Thousands of parents are already working together to make their own maintenance arrangements without the help of the Agency and tell us these arrangements are working well…”

“…We want more people to come to their own maintenance arrangements which are in the best interest of the child and offer value to the taxpayer…”

Child Maintenance can be considered as part of an overall settlement within divorce proceedings and therefore seeking the assistance of the CSA (soon to be the Child Maintenance & Enforcement Commission) may not be the most effective way for you to arrange maintenance payments for your children.

Therefore, if you are concerned about the impact the charges may have on you, or if you want to ensure that the child maintenance you are receiving is both appropriate and accurate then the ‘Family Team’ at Flint Bishop LLP, Family Solicitors can help.

The Family Team are able to help with all child law issues following a relationship breakdown, to include Child Maintenance, custody law, i.e. Contact and Residence Orders and Parental Responsibility Agreements.
