The Most Diverse Law Firm in the East Midlands

divider

Flint Bishop LLP is the most diverse law firm in the East Midlands and the 20th in the whole country according to this year’s Black Solicitors Network’s Diversity League Table (DLT).

The firm came 1st in the rankings for having the most ethnic minority trainee solicitors in the UK. In addition, it came 3rd for its number of ethnic minority partners and featured near the top of the rankings for its number of female partners and associates, disabled employees and female trainees.

Now in its sixth year the DLT, which is sponsored by The Law Society, is an annual analysis of ethnicity and gender diversity in legal firms. In addition it also covers the percentages of disabled and lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) employees in firms.

Fifty per cent of the rankings reflects the firm’s position in six diversity tables. The other 50 per cent is calculated from firms’ responses to questions including staff development and support, recruitment, promotion and retention specifically for women and people from ethnic minorities.

Overall, Flint Bishop came top in the East Midlands, fourth outside London and 20th in the whole of the UK.

Ken Dixon, managing partner at Flint Bishop, commented: “A great strength of our firm is the determination to attract, retain and develop the finest people we can from a range of backgrounds.

“The only barrier to success within this firm is each person’s ability to do their job. And a reflection of this that is not covered in theses rankings is age. For example the average age of our partnership and senior management is just 38 which is very low for a law firm.”

He continues: “And what is really pleasing about these latest results is that it shows inclusivity is not just the domain of the biggest firms – as our approach is comparable and in many cases better than some of the largest law firms in the UK.”

The DLT is the legal profession's leading diversity publication, and is produced in association and consultation with the Law Society and the Bar Council.

Flint Bishop has been involved in the DLT rankings since its inaugural launch in 2005.
