On Thursday, November 6 Derbyshire entrepreneurs came together for the inaugural Derby University Network of Entrepreneurs event.
Led by the University of Derby’s Business School and sponsored by leading law firm Flint Bishop Solicitors, the event gave local, national and international innovators the chance to meet Derby students, and to share their knowledge and expertise.
The event was attended by more than seventy key business minds and over forty students and offered a great insight into the support that the University and its supporters can offer to entrepreneurs.
Bob Betts, of Smiths Clocks, praised DUNE: “The University of Derby’s latest support network for budding entrepreneurs was a fantastic event. I’m proud to say I was there to see it start and meet tomorrow’s leaders in the making.
“Joining Derby’s business leaders and our own local successful entrepreneurs was exciting enough but meeting the students who have already grabbed the chance to start their own small enterprise was fantastic.
“I don’t believe any other university is as employer, career and success-focused for their students as Derby is. The DUNE support network, created by Brett Butcher (Founder of Datapath Ltd and Entrepreneur in Residence at the University) and the University’s Business School, offers an incredibly important and unique link that can bridge the gap from idea to successful execution.”
Andrew Cochrane, Head of Commercial Services at Flint Bishop Solicitors, said: “We were delighted to partner with the University of Derby at the DUNE launch event at the iPro stadium last night. It was great to see the students networking with local businesses and existing entrepreneurs, and there was a real buzz as the evening progressed.
“This project ties in with our passion about our city, and our existing programme of working with young people, and we look forward to working with the new businesses as they develop.”
“We are planning on running a series of legal workshops designed to help the students understand how the law affect their ideas. And of courses, how to use the law to protect them in the commercial world.
Professor David Gibson OBE, who also attended the event, added: “It was a great pleasure to attend the launch of DUNE, building on the creativity of students and the willingness of Derby innovators to network, collaborate and mentor the entrepreneurs of the future.
“It was a huge success and provides a great opportunity to create entrepreneurial openings and transform the Derby region.”
