We are delighted to partner with the University of Derby in the launch of ‘Inspire & Ignite’ initiative, which is aimed at supporting students to achieve their goals.
On Wednesday 16th March, Commercial Contracts Partner, Claire Tonks, introduced the project which offers support to students to achieve their dreams – whether that is starring in a radio show, working for the government, starting a business or even hosting or taking part in a community charity event, the support is uncapped and can range from financial support, mentoring opportunities, or giving advice in the world of business.
Speaking at the event, Claire Tonks introduced University of Derby student Alex Webber, whose dream is to become a UN Peacekeeper. Alex pitched his heart-warming dream to a panel at Flint Bishop who have since pledged financial support to Alex to help make his dream come true.
It is stories like this that inspired Claire to write her opening introduction to the initiative saying: “When it’s your turn to take a leap of faith and jump of a cliff edge into the unknown, Flint Bishop will help you build your own parachute to fulfil your dreams.”
While Alex still has a way to go – local entrepreneurs sought out Alex at the event, which was hosted at the historic Derby Silk Mill, to request information for his Just Giving page, or to offer advice and fundraising ideas.
Andy Pearson, owner of Drive Like a Rock Star, which is a Derbyshire driving school business, approached Alex and has offered to teach him how to drive. This is a testament to the local entrepreneurs who have supported the University, the students and like-minded businessmen from around the region.
Local entrepreneur, Sean Price, has also pledged to support Alex with his social media campaign and advise him how best to target local businesses around the region. Sean has recently launched Derby.digital which is aimed at bringing businesses together with the use of digital marketing.
Andrew Cochrane, Senior Partner at Flint Bishop, said: “We’re delighted to support the University of Derby with this initiative. As a business, we are fortunate enough to be in a position where we are able to make a difference to the lives of others -whether that is by offering support, giving advice or just listening to a pledge for financial support – we’ve always looked at ways to pay-it-forward. The hope is that our newest entrepreneurs coming through will then do the same in the future.”
