Over 50 local businesses took part in the 4BBB golf tournament last week at the Chevin private members Golf Club in Duffield, Derbyshire.

Firms that joined in the fundraising fun included Derby Telegraph, Focus Pharmaceuticals, PKF Cooper Parry and Smith Cooper. Also adding a legendary status to the tournament were footballing greats Archie Gemmill, Henry Newton and Roy MacFarland.

A team from Derby County Football Club won the Cup trophy, with other players winning coveted raffle prizes including a signed 2013/14 Derby County Football Club shirt and a signed Derbyshire County Cricket Club bat.

How does the annual golf tournament help Sporting Futures?

The monies raised will go towards helping young people from some of the most disadvantaged areas of Derbyshire.

Stuart Felce, Director of Sporting Futures, says:

‘Thousands of young people across Derbyshire start life with the odds stacked against them.  For the past 20 years, Sporting Futures have helped these people find better futures through sport.  Our charity Golf Day raised over £3,000 which will go towards helping us deliver sports sessions in disadvantaged areas of Derbyshire.  We are grateful to everyone that took part in this year’s Golf Day.’

Ian Beardmore commented on the golfing tournament:

“I am delighted that our efforts in promoting the golf tournament proved so successful for Sporting Futures yet again.  I would like to say a big thank you to everyone that played in the tournament; their contribution has gone to a hugely important cause that has such a positive impact on our local communities.”
